The following is an explanation of the new boot loader and why it is needed, followed by an installation procedure. Also attached is the Spec. There are many enhancements to this version. In addition to the ability to load multiple object files to the capacity of flash rom (aprox 1630 k), the file system organization and UI have been greatly improved.

The new boot block will allow you to load more than one file into the flash rom. As our object files grow in size we will soon exceed the capacity of a HD floppy, thus requiring the ability of the boot loader to load more than one file. The two files are the boot loader loader (K25ab112.kos) and the actual boot loader (K25sb112.kbb). In order to load the new boot loader you must first load a temporary system which will do this, then use that temporary system to load the new boot loader.

IMPORTANT! The procedure below must ve followed EXACTLY. If you do the wrong thing during the installation of the boot loader, you could render your instrument unable to load any operating system.

The procedure is as follows.

To upgrade a unit's boot block:

  0) You will need a disk with the above 2 boot block files on it and another with the engine KOS file on it. (The three files will not all fit on a single floppy, although they will probably fit on the same hard drive.)

  1) Power-cycle the unit. When the display shows "Please wait," press and release the Exit button, which will start the currently-installed boot loader.

  2) From the existing boot block, choose install system, floppy, file to install: K25ab112.kos, OK

3)After it is installed, do not run system, simply power-cycle.

  4) On power up you will automatically enter the K2500 Boot Block Installer, select: Install Bootblock, floppy, file to install: K25sb112.kbb, OK

 5) After it is installed DO NOT hit OK, Power-cycle the unit and when the display shows "Please wait," press and release the Exit button, which will start the new boot loader.

  6) Verify that the currently-installed boot loader is version 1.12b01

  7) Re-install the current K2500 OS, after this select run system and you're done.

  8) When you want to install object files into flash rom, you follow the normal object loading procedure however when the file has completed loading you will be prompted to load further files if you wish. In this dialog you are also shown remaining memory of flash. If you are done loading objects just select "done" and the it finishes up by writing out any empty space, then dumps you back into the boot dialog where you choose "run system"
